July 5, 2009 - WE GOT THE CALL!
Posted at 4:30pm:
This is all really nervous energy I need to work off...so very detailed. Cathardic for me really.
12:40 pm July 5, 2009 we got THE CALL. Over the phone she tells me her name and that she's with Emory. My heart pounding, she tells me she calling with the organ donation department and that they have a match for Scott. WOW!...!! She needs to ask Scott some questions. I tell her I need to wake him up but I know that he's going to be out of sorts to answer questions. So I put the phone on speaker and go and wake him up. She asks a series of questions, "height, weight, last dialysis session...". We answer everything for her and she asks what time can we be at the hospital. OMG - Really is this actually happening, REALLY!! Scott is still in bed when we get off the phone with her and I start racing around thinking a gabillion thoughts at once. I call my Papa - he was on first alert. For the first time in over a year - he doesn't answer his phone...WTH!!
So I call my brother to try to get to Papa. Patrick answer's and I tell him we got the call...two seconds later I can hear the smile in his voice. I ask him to let Papa know because I've got to make more calls and get on the road. I call my Mom and tell her - same reaction, I can hear the smile in her voice. Scott come...s out and I tell him he needs to call his parents, sister and aunt and uncle...in that order to let them know. Scott and I can hear the hapiness and joy with each person we speak with. It's been SO long since we've heard happiness in people's voices and it's so nice to finallyprovide a reason for them to smile. Getting everything together at the house was a freenzy/blur. Scott , oddly is just calm as a cucumber, or so it seemed. Out the door and in the car I realize he's in shock...numb. About half way to Emory he tells me he's scared.
